So I ended up selling both my truck and my 240sx about a month or two ago and picked up an S2000. It's a 2003 with 80,000 miles and I love it. On to the pics.

Tire exploded on me one day while I was on the way to school. Pretty fun/scary moment considering I was doing seventy miles an hour on the interstate. Turned out ok and I took some pictures of what the tire looked like afterward.

I really want to get out and take more photos but I haven't had much time between work and school. New Camera!

So I finally invested in a DSLR. Picked up a Pentax K10D with a f/3.5-5.6 18-55mm lens. I also still have my old f/1.7 50mm Pentax lens which mounts on the camera as well. That lens doesn't support autofocus but thats not a big issue.

Now that I finally have a DSLR I can say that it was definitley worth the price. Being able to shoot anything you want without worrying about it being trivial or a waste of film is nice. Also being able to review photos instantly to see how your settings are working out is extremely useful. It is packed with a ton of other features as well but I won't go in depth. Suffice to say I am extremely pleased with the camera on all levels.

Shot a few photos over the weekend and I'm pretty pleased with how they came out especially considering i'm still getting used to the camera. I like the kit lens a lot as well, especially considering it was only $70.

So me and Katie headed down to Charleston on Sunday for the day. We perused a massive aircraft carrier and walked around downtown a bit. It was a pretty fun day and I took a ton of pictures. So I'm just going to dump some on here.

Why I Love Film Photography

A lot of people now a days have all but forgotten about the film medium of photography. It is considered the OLD standard by most and antiquated by others. Though there are some such as myself that really enjoy the look and feel of film, most people are now children of the digital age. They shoot with DSLR's, which don't get me wrong are very nice and have a lot of advantages over film, but I for one just love film more.

Sure with a DSLR I wouldn't have to wait for the film to be developed, I could look at pictures instantly and know exactly what I took, and I wouldn't have to spend continuous money on film. However, the main reason I didn't start off with a DSLR and still don't have one is the price. Getting a nice camera body, lens's, and other equipment will run you over $500 and could easily go over $1000.

However my old Pentax film SLR from 1993 still takes just as good pictures as almost any DSLR that I have seen. Sure there is the usual grain associated with film but to me that just adds a little bit of personality to the pictures. Part of the fun for me as well is getting the photo's back from being developed. Every time I get a new batch of photo's developed I can't wait to get home and put the CD in my computer (I never get prints, just scanned onto a disk) and look over what I got. I feel like a kid on Christmas morning.

I love photography in general, and film especially. I don't know where this hobby is going but I am going to pursue it as far as I can. Wish me luck!

Race Day!

So no one is really quite sure how it got started but one way or another several of us at work challenged each other to a race/run. I actually thought it was a joke until i was told we were doing it this past week haha. We all met up Thursday night at Eastside High. So anyways I was there with camera in hand as usual.

Brandon's New 240

My friend Brandon is in the Air Force and was just back in town for about two weeks. He managed to get rid of his old car and acquire a new one in that time and he wanted some pictures of it. I'm not all that happy with these it was super bright out and made shooting difficult.

I love his fitment even though 18's all around is a weird setup on s13's.

A Fun Afternoon

Colin and Trevor, with whom I work came by my house yesterday for me to work on their cars. Changed Colin's spark plugs in his beloved truck aka Esmerelda and changed the oil in Trevor's. Colin biked around my house and I took advantage of the opportunity to shoot some impromptu pictures.

Also had Trevor take a picture of me, the only so far taken with the Pentax. Ignore the grease and oil I am covered in, I had just finished working on the cars.

Colin's spark plugs which were in terrible shape, one of them was even missing a piece of its side.

So this chassis with a turboed and intercooled V8 strapped to it was probably the coolest thing at Elite this year. It actually managed to catch my eye along with maybe only two other cars. Enjoy!

Kickball!

So a group of friends and I got together yesterday to play kickball at Heritage Park in Simpsonville.

It's been a long time since I've played kickball or anything athletic for that matter but it was a lot of fun. Probably would have been more fun if not for the fact that I got literally no sleep the night before. Anyways....on to the pictures!

Reflection

That shot is one of my personal favorites. I love the way everything is faded out except the rear wheel on my car and the reflection of the S2000. It's one picture I finally managed to capture just the way I wanted.

Also just to note, unless otherwise stated none of my pictures have been enhanced with Photoshop or edited at all. It's purely what the film captures.

Wow!

It's been over a year since I started this and only a little less since I left it sitting on the shelf collecting dust. More has changed since than I could have guessed, and while laying in bed tonight, unable to sleep, I felt a random urge to start this up again.

So in keeping with that spirit, I've gotten rid of all the old, boring, rambling, useless posts and am starting with a fresh slate.

One of the more exciting things to happen in the last year, to me at least, is my sudden interest in photography. Several of my co-workers have nice DSLR cameras and after seeing the images they were capable of producing I was eager to get into it. However as usual there was a problem with that, mostly it being a money issue. Nice quality cameras don't come cheap. I could save up the money no problem, but there was never a time where that same money wasn't needed more immediately somewhere else.

As luck would have it though my dad had an older Pentax ZX-M SLR film camera lying around that he hadn't used in ages. Even better he had a 50mm, 28mm, and a telephoto lens as well as a flash.

So to make a short story even shorter I have been playing around with the camera for the last several months. It's become a really enjoyable hobby for me. I'm going to use this blog to showcase some of my photography, as well as update you with some random thoughts.

In order to start this off properly, here are some of the photo's I have taken thus far.
